General Overheading Part I

Damage Formula
The Damage Formula of the CBNG is the most important part of judgement. Knowing the compatibility of each attacking and defending stat is crucial: Physical attacks Physical, Magical attacks Magical. For complete information on the Damage Formula, go to the Damage Formula Tutorial.

• When calculating stat boosts, one must always round to the nearest whole.
  
• To find the current HP level of a Summon, one must put all four numbers behind a decimal and multiply it by the Summon's Max HP Stat.

Elements
The Summon's Elements are one of the deciding factors in attacks. There are eight Elemental Attributes within the game. Every Summon is limited to one of these Elements. Some, however, are capable changing their Elements due to differentiating effects.

Elemental Effectiveness is the advantage one Element has over another. While each effectiveness varies, the multipliers should help.

Elemental Boosts are the 1.5x damage increase attacks that are the same element as the user gains.

Status Conditions
There are nine status ailments that can be inflicted by certain conditions or attacks. A Summon can only be under the effects of two of them at one time. Most statuses heal themselves after a certain period of time, while certain moves, traits, or accessories will prevent, remove, or alter them.

Scorched (SCR)

• Decreases HP by 10% each turn.
  
• Damage taken from Fire Elemental attacks are halved in damage.
  
• Fire Elemental Summons are unable to be scorched.
  
• Damage taken from Water and Earth Elemental attacks are increased by 30%.
  
• Scorch will heal in 4 turns.
  
• In a Fiery environment, HP decreases by 20%.
  
• When the Summon is withdrawn for another, upon returning to the field; the HP sap will be 6.25%.
  
• Cannot be paired with Drenched or Frozen statuses.

Drenched (DRN)

• Max HP level is cut in half.
  
• Drench will heal in 4 turns.
  
• Water and Ice Elemental Summons are unable to be drenched.
  
• Damage taken from Water Elemental attacks are halved.
  
• Damage taken from Lightning Elemental attacks are increased by 30%.
  
• In a Wet environment, Drench will cause a 10% HP sap. However, it will ignore the Max HP cut.
  
• Cannot be paired with Scorched or Poisoned statuses.

Poisoned (PSN)

• Decreases HP by 6.25% each turn.
  
• Physical and Magical Defense are lowered by 30%.
  
• Poison will heal in 3 turns.
  
• Darkness Elemental Summons cannot be Poisoned.
  
• Cannot be paired with Enchantment or Drenced statuses.

Enchantment (ENT)

• Magical Attack is lowered by 50%.
  
• Enchantment will not heal naturally.
  
• Light Elemental Summons cannot be enchanted.
  
• Cannot be paired with Dormancy or Poisoned statuses.

Frozen (FRZ)

• Until one is capable of breaking out, no movement can happen.
  
• 30% chance to thaw.
  
• Fire Elemental attacks will thaw automatically if hit by them or used.
  
• Physical Attacks taken are increased in damage by 50%.
  
• Healing HP cannot occur.
  
• If one withdraws their Summon, upon returning to the field, frozen healing chance drops to 15%.
  
• Cannot be paired with Dormancy or Scorched statuses.

Dormancy (DRM)

• Until healed, no movement can happen.
  
• Dormancy will heal in 5 turns.
  
• 10% chance of restoring HP by 50% maximum.
  
• If one withdraws their Summon, upon returning to the field, Dormancy turns will reset.
  
• Cannot be paired with any other status.

Rampant (RMP)

• Increases Physical and Magical Attack by 50%.
  
• Lowers Physical and Magical Defense by 50%.
  
• The last attack chosen is locked into use for 4 turns.
  
• Rampancy heals after 4 turns.
  
• At Critical HP, Rampancy has a 10% chance of occurring.
  
• Cannot be paired with any other status.

Minor Statuses
These are other statuses that can be inflicted upon a Summon. These statuses do not count as major, and all can exist on a Summon alongside two major statuses.

Stun (STUN)

• Inflicted are unable to move.
  
• The Summon performing the Stun must be faster.
  
• Lasts only for that single turn.

Distracted (DST)

• 5% chance of happening after critical hit.
  
• 100-sided die is rolled.
  
• 1 - 20 means that the Summon will not move.
  
• 21 - 40 means that the Summon will attack itself for 6.25%.
  
• 41 - 60 means that the Summon will miss its attack.
  
• 61 - 100 means that the Summon's attack will be normal.
  
• Distraction will clear up in 2 - 5 turns. There is a 30% chance it will heal during the second through fourth turns. After the fifth, it will be cleared automatically.

A Summon's stats can be raised or lowered in intervals called stages.

If a Summon with 450 as its Base Magical Attack gets that stat lowered by 3 stages, sending down to -3, it's new stat is 180 (450 x .4 = 180). If that same Summon has its stat raised from its Base by 3 stages, it will be 1125 Magical Attack (450 x 2.5 = 1125).

Stat stages are non-volatile, meaning that they raise/lower from the stage they are currently on. At the beginning of every battle, the stages are always at zero. If a Summon with +1 Magical Attack has that stat lowered by 1, it will go to 0. If it is lowered by 2, it will go to -1. However, if a Summon were to raise 2 stages in Magical Attack after being lowered to -1, it would go to +1.

When multiplying stats, one must always round down. If a number is 145.33 or 145.99 after the math, the number will always be 145.

Accuracy and Evasion
All attacks can have an altered Accuracy or Evasion check rate. This makes it either easier or harder to hit Summons. These work like the stage system of stats, but each multiplicative differ. The following shows the multiplier and its percentage for Accuracy.

If a move has Base 100 Accuracy and is lowered by -3 stages, it goes to 65 Accuracy (100 - 35). If a move has 30 Accuracy and is raised by 3 stages, it goes to 65 Accuracy (30 + 35).

If a Summon gains +2 Accuracy and its opponent has +1 Evasion, its opponent will have +2 Accuracy (3 - 1 = 2).

Critical Hits
Critical Hits are chance occurrences where a Summon's damage output will be multiple times more than normal.

The starting Critical Hit Ratio is 10%. Critical hits can be risen by multiple factors.

Environment is the description of the surrounding area that the Summons are doing battle in. Because they vary so greatly, the environment is to be chosen by one of the participants of the battle.

Battle Modes & Rules

Battle System
The Channelers Battle System is fairly straightforward. Two or more Summoners are pitted against one another. There is a random number roll between the number of Summoners before battle, with the resulting Summoner's number being the one to choose the Environment. However, battle rules can state that there is no environment.

When inside of the Channelers Battle Network, one does not need to write long narratives. You need only to state your move. Any attack equipped in your movepool is usable when in battle. Only 10 moves may be equipped to your Summon at one time.

When sending out a Summon, you must specify its name and accessory being used. Here is the format:

Raijin - The Grimoire

When a Summon attacks, under normal conditions, each of the Physical/Magical stats coincide with one another. Unless an attack is used to attack the opposite Defense, Physical Attack will account for the target's Physical Defense; while the user's Magical Attack will account for the target's Magical Defense.

A Summon's stats are calculated from Value, or their base amount. Once they are calculated, they are shifted into Actual format.

The formula for calculating Value to Actual is : Value Number * 12 / 5 = Actual (rounded)

Battle Rules
All are applicable when in battle.

• Sleep Ban: No more than one Summon on an opposing team may be put to sleep.
  
• Freezing Ban: No more than one Summon on an opposing team may be frozen.
  
• Accessory Ban: Two or more Summons cannot have the same Accessory.
  
• Element Ban: No Summon on the opposing side may be of the same species.
  
• OHKO Ban: Moves that OHKO may not be used.
  
• Self-KO Ban: Moves/Accessories that KO one's self are forbidden.
  
• Deity Ban: No Deity-Class Summons can be used.

Battle Modes

• Public Sending: All Summons and attack are sent in the public eye for both the Overhead and the opponent to see.
  
• Public Sending 2: All Summons are sent publicly, while attacks are sent privately to the Overhead.
  
• Private Sending: All Summons and attacks are sent privately.
  
• Private Sending 2: Both participants will send their Summons privately to the ref, who then reveals the teams. Afterwards, all Summons in each lineup are the only ones available to each Summon; both having to send privately.
  
• Revolution Sending: Both participants will send their Summons privately to the ref, who then reveals the teams. Afterwards, all Summons in each lineup are the only ones available to each Summon; both having to send publicly.
  
  
• Speed Mode: Summons follow the Speed Tier format.

User will lay out a Fodder to take damage, losing 20% HP in exchange. The Fodder will take damage for the user and block most non-damaging attacks. It prevents the secondary effects of damaging moves, and is not forced out by damage-dealing attacks that force out the user. If the Fodder takes damage equating to or exceeding 20% of the user's HP, it will disappear; otherwise, it will stay in tact. All OHKO attacks will break the Fodder regardless. If the Fodder is forced out by any non-damaging attack, it will be in tact upon the Summon's return. When coming in, if any field dangers (such as the Thorn attacks) are out, they will break the Fodder automatically. Draining attacks, while capable of breaking the Fodder, will not restore any HP.

10% chance of inflicting the Confusion status on the target. Viral Thorns, Toxic Thorns, Attribute Sphere, Barrier, Screen, Block, Stun Blades, Fog, Leech, and Fire Wall are dissipated when this attack hits.

Only two layer of these can be up at any time. Upon being conjured in, the opponent is Stunned. A Pokemon with a 1/4 resistance to Lightning will take 3.125% damage (6.25% if two layers are up), one with a 1/2 resistance to Lightning will take 6.25% (12.5% if two layers are up) damage, and one with 1/1 will take 12.5% damage (25% if two layers are up), and one with 2x weakness takes 25% damage (50% damage if layers are up). Whirlwind and Fog negate this move.

How to Become an Overhead

OHs are very important to the CRPG. They are one of the main cogs in the churning wheel of our game. Becoming an OH gives leeway for many great perks, but mainly, it's a way to make large amounts of money in the CRPG.

Not only will you get in-depth experience on the various strategies that others implement, but you will be capable of witnessing firsthand the different types of Summons out there. This post will help you understand the steps to becoming an excellent OH.

Note: OHs should be reasonably quick and accurate in their judgments, as well as have all of the information present in front of them. They must be ready to answer any question, and most importantly, respectful of the battle. There is no favoring one Summoner over the other - that is cheating.

Step 1:
You should have a general understanding of how the CRPG's battle system works. Familiarizing yourself with it should be a main priority. Battling others, asking the experts, and even looking at the seminars and articles will help you.

Step 2:
Familiarize yourself with the information of the OH Instructional Booklet. Learn all of the effects of moves and accessories in the CRPG. Asking the Battle System Heads is probably the best thing to do, as they know the battle system inside and out.

Step 4:
Practice and learn the battle formula. The Damage Formula is not there to be extra math. You need it so that your judgments can be completely accurate. Look at the forum battles and see if you get the same result as all of the OHs. When in your own battles, it's a good idea to check the outcomes before you make your move.

Step 5:
Request for a tester. Take the OH Written Test when you have a tester. If you fail the Written Test, you may retake it whenever you wish.

Step 6:
After you pass the OH Written Test, you will be given the Field Test. In the Field Test, you have to OH a battle given to you by the tester you have chosen. If you fail the Field Test, you can retake it in three days.

Overheads are paid every week during the Fiscal Events, found inside of the Professions Board. The money an Overhead is to be paid is accumulated over the week, with the full amount being in by Fiscal Event.

Every Overhead must delineate the amount they gain after each battle.

Overheads gain the same as the winners of the matches. The above chart is made, assuming that there will be teams. For Free-For-Alls, due to the fact that the host of the FFA is the one to delineate the payment, the amount an OH can gain from them varies greatly. However, the Overhead gains the amount the 1st Place winner(s) of the Free-For-All gains.

1. This is the Attacker's Physical or Magical Attack stat. This can be found in the Summoner's stats (should they choose to put it, or in the database. This is dependent on whether the Summon uses a Physical or Magical move; with Physical Attack being accounted for with Physical moves, and Magical Attack being accounted for with Magical moves. This is one of the core equations you must solve, and must be included in your source calculation.

2. This refers to the Power of the Summon's attack. If the Attack has 60 Power, you will put 60 there. If it has 80 Power, you will put 80, and so forth. If the Power varies through some process, you must ascertain that Power and use that number.

3. How effective an Element is against another. This can be found on the chart showing each of the elemental weaknesses and resistances in the Overheading Part 1 post. For 4x effectiveness, 4 will be put in the formula; for 2x effectiveness, 2 will be put in the formula; for 1x effectiveness, 1 shall be put; for 1/2 effectiveness, .5 (or .50) shall be put; and for 1/4 effectiveness, .25 shall be put.

4. Elemental Boost is, as stated in the Overheading Part I post, the boost a Summon gains from using an attack of their same Element. If a Summon has an Elemental Boost with the attack, the number input will be 1.5. If the Summon does not, the number input will be 1.

5. This is a variable formula for if the Summon has an equipped Accessory that boosts the attack it uses in some way. For instance, if a Summon has the Vega Star equipped and uses a Light Elemental attack, the damage is increased by 20%. This means that you must input .80, as 100 - 20 = 80. Learn why in the next section. If nothing, then this equation is skipped all together.

6. This is a variable formula for if the defending Summon has a status. For instance, frozen targets are 50% more susceptible to Physical Attack damage. Thus, when input into the system, should the Defending Summon be inflicted with Freezing, the number input will be .50; as 100 - 50 = 50. If nothing, then this equation is skipped all together.

7. This is a variable formula for if the attack used by the Attacker is effected by the Field in some way. In example, Shadowscape will increase the damage of Darkness attacks by 30%, but decrease Light attacks by 30%. Therefore, if the Summon were to use Shadow, the number would be divided by .70; as 100 - 30 = 70, and if it were a move like Comet Shower; the number would be multiplied by .70. If nothing, then this equation is skipped all together.

8. This is a variable formula for if the attack used by the Attacker gets a Critical Hit. Should the Attacker gain the Critical Hit, the number input will be 2. If nothing, then this equation is skipped all together.

9. This is a variable formula for if there are extra effects, such as moves increasing/decreasing the output of damage. This works in the same way as Field Effects.

10. This is a variable formula for if the Defending Summon has an Accessory that hinders the Attacker in some way. In this vein, the percentage will work just as the Attacker's Accessory would, but the formula will always be multiplication.

11. The final core formula. Use the Summon's Physical Defense or Magical Defense whenever it is necessary.

12. The percent of the amount should always include the numbers before the decimal, and the first two behind it. There is no need to round these.
